This page contains information about where in the education at DTU Systems Biology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) can be found (or should be found in the future). As a start, it functions as a placeholder for information to come.

This page was initiated after the Teachers' Retreat in Malmø on October 6-7, 2011. It is created and maintained by Henrik Nielsen, but everybody is free to edit it.

I&E in Introductory courses (Ingeniørarbejde)

Two compulsory courses on 1st semester are formerly known as "Ingeniørarbejde":

  • Health, Diseases and Technology / Sundhed, Sygdom og Teknologi (27004) for bachelor students in Human Life Science Engineering / Teknisk Biomedicin. Course responsible: Lars Hellgren.
  • Biotechnology and Communication / Bioteknologi og formidling (27007) for bachelor students in Biotechnology. Course responsible: Rasmus John Normand Frandsen.

Description of I&E in Introductory courses:

  • Story telling / Case-baseret introduktion til I&E
  • Foredrag fra industrifolk (etablerede samt nystartede virksomheder, og i 27007 1 times oplæg om patenter/biobusiness (Novozymes))
  • Innovationsøvelser (The Creative Process I)
    • Brainstorm/Mindmap
    • Spil: her er nogle byggesten/teknikker – kan I sætte dem sammen til noget nyt der kan bruges til noget
  • Krav om afsnit om innovation og samfundsperspektiv i eksamensopgave/rapport

There is a compulsory Introductory Project (Fagprojekt) on the 3rd semester

Description of I&E in Introductory Project:

  • The Creative Process II (værktøjer) her kan vi måske få inspiration/hjælp og kursusmateriale fra CIEL el. lignende organisationer
  • Den praktiske side af I&E - DTU organer der kan hjælpe fra ide til implementering
  • Hvilke relevante kurser udbydes der indenfor I&E området
  • Krav om afsnit om innovation i fagprojektsrapporten

I&E in Bachelor Project

Description of I&E in the Bachelor Project:

  • A one-day compulsory workshop in the beginning of the project period: En generel Bachelorprojekt-workshop, hvor I&E indgår som et vigtigt element (The Creative Process III), men hvor der også arbejdes med andre elementer, såsom de formelle krav til rapportudformning, projektplanlægning og evt. litteratursøgning. Denne workshop dag bør udbydes i starten af hvert semester og vil have omkring 50-60 deltagere pr semester.
  • A required section in the report describing the innovative aspects of the project: Skal udformes som 1-2 siders selvstændigt afsnit med introduktion til emnet og innovationsperspektiver. For at undgå at dette krav udelukker studerende fra at lave grundvidenskabelige projekter, bør innovation her forstås i bredest mulige forstand, altså som værdiskabelse og ikke kun som noget der giver en økonomisk vinding.
  • Semi-annual competition / Halvårlig konkurrence om det bedste I&E afsnit fra en bachelorrapport.

I&E in generic courses

I&E should be an element of most courses at Department of Systems Biology. This can be realized through the use of cases from "the real world" when making problems or project description for the students. For inspiration, see the Innovation cases database.
